KNUST LAY DOWN NEW RULES FOR ITS SRC VETTING
Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has spelled out new modalities for the conduct of its Students Representative Council (SRC) elections.
According to a statement released and signed by the University’s Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, the new modalities follows “a petition submitted by a group of students to the University Administration regarding the modalities for SRC elections and the alleged misconduct of some SRC
executives”.of Students Affairs was therefore tasked to engage students and relevant takeholders on the matter after which the following decisions were arrived at by all parties;
CONDUCT OF SC ELECTIONS/VETTING
a) Aspirants should be together with the Vetting Panel in a confined room with media
personnel from Focus FM and TEK TV providing live coverage of the vetting process.
[8/5, b) Each aspirant should be allowed to bring a maximum of five (5), supporters/agents, to the venue.
[8/5c) The names and other details of the agents should be submitted by the aspirants together with their forms In respect of forms for the Halls which have already been submitted, the information on the agents should be submitted to the Hall Master at least two (2) days before the vetting.
d)Each aspirant should be made to sign an undertaking to take full responsibility for the
misconduct of his/her agents. The agents would also individually be required to sign
undertakings not to misconduct themselves during the vetting process. Anyone who
misconducts himself/herself shall be brought before the Disciplinary Committee.
[8/5,f) Students should not be allowed to loiter around of the vetting. All students,
apart from the agents of the aspirants, should tune in to Focus FM or TEK TV for the live broadcast of the vetting process.The link for accessing the vetting in the virtual space should be made known to all students.
g) The Hall vetting should be done in the halls under tight security provided for by the
Hall Management. Apart from the ECs of the various Halls, only SR ECs should be
permitted in the vetting room.
